Plantation Estate Architecture – Kauai, Hawaii
- High-End
Kauai, HI / 2007
Located on high ground with panoramic views encompassing ocean and mountain vistas, this 9,000 square-foot ranch house combines elements of Cape Cod architecture integrated with those from Hawaii.
Positioned beside a man-made lake, the main house connects a group of structures into a loose compound. This off-the grid complex includes a 2,000 square-foot barn which combines a 4-car garage with a 2nd-story ranch office, a solar building and a sunken pool and equipment vault.
The main house playfully features a variety of architectural details eg. eyebrow dormers, vaulted ceilings, a composite of mullioned windows and doors, corbels, an intermix of board and batten with shingle siding, lava rock walls, wainscots and outdoor showers plus a turreted, curved staircase.
